BRIEF HISTORY OF SAGC
Sharon AG church traces its humble beginning to the crusade held at BEL cultural center by Rev. K.E. Weigel, Rev. M.T. Thomas and Rev. S. Paul in 1966. Thereafter, a Sunday worship was started under the leadership of Rev. S. Paul catering to BEL, HMT, MES and Airforce employees.
In 1967, the church was recognized by The Mysore district of Assembly of God. Rev. George Pallil was appointed as pastor (1970-1971), who later moved as a missionary to Africa. The church started growing in strength and the need for a permanent place of worship was felt and the present property with a building was acquired in memory of an American missionary Alien Edwards
Late Rev. T. Samkutty succeeded Rev. George Pallil as pastor and ministered until 1981. During that time, the church expanded its ministries to the areas of Jalahalli, Peenya and Dasarahalli. In 1973 the Shelton Memorial Hall was constructed with the help of late Rev. McDermid (Principal of Southern Asia Bible College), where worship services were held. In 1981 late Rev. T. M. Daniel became the pastor of the church and served for four years.
Rev. A.G. Samkutty succeeded as pastor and continued till 1993. Rev. C. G. Baboos took over the leadership of the church and served till 2005. During his ministry the church experienced rapid growth which resulted in extension of the Shelton Memorial Hall. The new church complex was completed over a period of 7 years. In 1998, an English service was started led by Br. Bobby Mathew. The following year, a Kannada service was started conducted by Bro. Georgekutty for the next 10 years.
In 2005, Rev. D. Kumar the assistant pastor became the pastor of the church and was assisted by Pr. Joseph Mathew. Rev. D. Kumar became the pastor of Canaan A G church K.G. Halli, an outstation ministry of the church and Pr. Joseph Mathew moved to Marathahalli. Starting 2008 Rev. Ninan Mathew ministered in the church for 3 years. In 2009, Pr. Stenson succeeded Br. Georgekutty for the Kannada service. Rev. Isac Tharian was the pastor of the church from 2011 to 2013. Pr. Stenson left the church to pioneer a ministry in Kushalnagar and Br. N. Raju was appointed as pastor of the Kannada fellowship. A new hall on the third floor was constructed in the year 2013 where the Kannada service and Sunday school is conducted at present. Rev. O. J. Thomas succeeded Rev. Isac Tharian and was ministering in the church . Pr. G Thomas was appointed as pastor of Kannada service following Br. Raju's sad demise.
Rev. Biju P Thomas succeeded Rev. O. J. Thomas and is currently ministering in the church along with Pr. G Thomas.
